Philip Keenan (1908-2000) was a professor of astronomy with the Ohio State University at Perkins Observatory from 1946 until his death. He was an expert in the field of stellar spectra and one of the creators (with W. W. Morgan) of the MK system of stellar classification. The name was suggested by R. Martino.
