Mt. Bandaisan is an active volcano and with a height of 1819 meters the symbolic mountain of Fukusima prefecture. The huge eruption of 1888 July 15 caused serious damage. As if to compensate for it, the mountain blessed the prefecture with about 300 scenic lakes, including Lake Hibara and Goshiki-numa Pond.
