Dirk Klinkenberg (1709-1799), a Dutch astronomer and mathematician, discovered several comets, of which the great comet of 1744, more usually associated with the name of De Chéseaux, is the best known. He also calculated cometary orbits, notably for 1P/Halley in 1759. The name was suggested by W. A. Fröger.
