The humorous “Joop ter Heul” novels for teenage girls by Dutch writer Cissy van Marxveldt (Setske de Haan, 1889-1948) had a notable influence on the writings of Anne Frank, who addressed her diary letters to an imaginary friend based on one of van Marxveldt's characters. The name was suggested by L. E. Timmerman.
