Hermann Ludwig Ferdinand von Helmholtz (1821–1894), a German doctor, physiologist and physicist, was one of the most famous naturalists of the nineteenth century. In 1847 he extended Robert Mayer’s {see planet  (10786)} law of energy conservation to all known natural phenomena. (M 39658) _ _.
