Yoshida Shigeru (1952-1997) was a Japanese physician who specialized in the circulatory system and the use of magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of heart disease. His premature death cut short his plans for a minor-planet survey. The name was suggested by J. Kobayashi and M. Namiki.
