Asada Gouryu (1734–1799), an astronomer in the Japanese Edo period, studied positional astronomy. He also founded “Senjikan”, a private school in astronomy, in Osaka, and educated many outstanding astronomers, including Takashi Yoshitoki and Hazama Shigetomi {see planets (12365) and (10832), respectively}.
