Named by the Fabra Observatory in memory of José Comas Solá (1868–1937), first director of the Fabra Observatory, Barcelona, and a well-known observer of minor planets and comets for many years. Among his discoveries were the short-period comet Comas Solá and 11 numbered minor planets. The discoverer is also honored by planet  (1102). (M 5357) _ _.
