Named in honor of Stanislavs Vasilevskis { –1988}, an astronomer on the staff of the Lick Observatory from 1949 until his retirement in 1974. He has conducted extensive programs of astrometric observations for stellar proper motions and parallaxes and has made important contributions to astrometric instrumentation, notably his success in establishing a system of automatic plate measurement coupled with the use of electronic computers.
