Named for the daughter of Chryses, a priest of Apollo {see planet  (1862)}. She was captured by Achilles {see planet  (588)} but awarded to Agamemnon {see planet  (911)}. Apollo sent a plague to avenge her capture, and the Greeks were compelled to return Chryseïs to her father. Then Agamemnon took Briseïs {see planet  (655)}, another captive of Achilles, and the famous quarrel resulted. Achilles, angry because he had lost both Briseïs and Chryseïs, withdrew from the Trojan War. (Z 61) _ _.
