Named in honor of Kaare Aksnes {1938– }, celestial mechanician at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory from 1971 to 1978, well-known for his work on both artificial and natural satellites, especially for his detailed analyses of observations of the mutual phenomena of the Galilean satellites. He is currently on the staff of the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment. (M 4482) _ _.
