Named in memory of Kaoru Akiyama (1901–1970), professor at Hosei University, Tokyo, during 1930–1940 and 1949–1970, well known for his work on minor planets. Initially in collaboration with K. Hirayama {see minor planet  (1999)}, he made the first detailed study of the orbit of the 3/2 commensurability object (153) Hilda. (M 5014) _ _.
