Named in memory of Vasilej Grigor’evich Fesenkov (1889–1972), one of the founders of the study of astrophysics in the U.S.S.R. His scientific activities covered a wide range of topics, including solar and stellar physics, the Moon and planets, atmospheric optics, meteoritics and cosmogony. From 1924 to 1964 he was editor of the Astronomicheskij Zhurnal and from 1945 Chairman of the Committee on Meteorites of the U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences. (M 5525) _ _.
