A Polish soldier, Kazimierz Michal Waclaw Wiktor Pulaski (1745-1779), is often called “the father of American cavalry” in reference to training he provided to the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In Illinois, an eponymous holiday is traditionally held on the first Monday in March to celebrate Polish culture.
