Named in honor of William E. Brunk, astronomer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. As chief of NASA’s Planetary Astronomy Program, he played an important role in the construction of the 2.6-m reflector at the McDonald Observatory and the Infrared Telescope Facility at Mauna Kea. He is also known for his work on the rings of Saturn, the atmosphere of Jupiter, and the feasibility of detecting planets about other stars. (M 6955) _ _.
