Named in honor of Lawrence H. Wasserman, planetary astronomer at Lowell Observatory. Like his colleague Millis {see planet  (2659)}, Wasserman has specialized in the study of solar-system objects by the occultation technique. He has analyzed lightcurves of stars occulted by planetary atmospheres and has worked on the prediction, observation and reduction of occultations of stars by minor planets. (M 7620) _ _.
