Solomon Lefschetz (1884–1972), professor at Princeton University, made important contributions in algebraic geometry and algebraic topology. As a result of war work he became an expert on non-linear differential equations and control theory and made Princeton {see planet  (508)} a leading center in those disciplines. (M 44111) _ _.
