Named in memory of the American astronomer Raymond Smith Dugan (1878–1940), perhaps best known as a co-author with Russell and Stewart of an important astronomical textbook. His principal field of research concerned variable stars, but during 1902–1904 he participated in the Heidelberg minor-planet program, discovering 18 planets. (M 7622) _ _.
