Pierre Charles Le Monnier (1715–1799) was a French astronomer who, in 1736–1737, accompanied Maupertius and Clairaut on their expedition to Lapland. He introduced the use of the transit instrument at the Paris Observatory in 1741 and took into account the effects of nutation in the solar tables.
