Well known for his orbit determinations that take account of the nongravitational forces acting on comets, he has made a detailed study of the motion of Halley's Comet back to the year -1404 and has analyzed the orbits of meteor showers and their relation to the orbits of parent comets. Citation prepared by S. J. Edberg and Z. Sekanina.
