The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in Helwan is the Egyptian center for studies in observational astronomy, geophysics and geodesy. Founded in 1903, NRIAG manages the operation of the 0.76-m reflector at Helwan Observatory and, since 1964, the 1.9-m reflector at Kottamia Observatory.
