Corning is the home of a glassworks that makes professional telescope mirrors, including the disk for the 5-m Hale {see planet  (1024)} Telescope at Palomar. The one-tenth-scale engineering model of the Hale telescope resides there, and it was used to discover this minor planet. (M 46112) _ _.
