Named for Ambiorix, chief of the Eburons, an ancient Belgian tribe. Ambiorix revolted against the occupying forces under Julius Caesar and was pursued and killed in the forest. There is a statue of Ambiorix in the town of Tongres. (M 23792) _ _.
