Named in memory of Aleksandr Ignat’evich Lebedinskij (1913–1967), astrophysicist at Moscow State University known for his research on the cosmogony of stars and planets, novae, aurorae and the magnetohydrodynamics of the solar atmosphere, as well as for his design of astronomical and geophysical instruments.
