Named in honor of Egon Horst Schröter (1928– ), German solar astronomer and director of the Freiburg Kiepenheuer-Institut, on the occasion of his retirement. In 1976 he succeeded K.-O. Kiepenheuer at the Freiburg Institute for Solar Physics. An important achievement during his directorship consisted in negotiations about the erection of two new tower telescopes at Teide Observatory on Tenerife, Canary Islands. Schröter served as president of the Astronomische Gesellschaft from 1987 to 1990. In 1978 he became a member of the German Committee in COSPAR. (M 22499) _ _.
