Named in honor of Alan H. Batten, an astronomer at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, British Columbia. Batten’s research has centered on close binary stars and radial velocities. He has served as a vice president of the IAU, as president of two of its commissions and as editor of the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. (M 14208) _ _.
