Named in honor of Roy Dancey and Bruce D. Dancey, father and son, who successively headed the optical shop at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria from 1965 until 1986. Under their hands and direction, the primary and secondary mirrors for the 3.6-m Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope were figured and polished. They also produced new primary mirrors for the 1.8-m and 1.2-m telescopes at Victoria, as well as a host of smaller telescope optics, spectrograph optics and associated test optics. Bruce Dancey’s career was tragically terminated by blindness in 1986. However, the Dancey’s work has given the astronomers of Canada, France and Hawaii a superb eye with which to explore the mysteries of space. (M 16042) _ _.
