Named in honor of Patrice Bouchet, a staff astronomer at the European Southern Observatory at La Silla, where he leads the infrared section. His work has ranged from the discoveries of a ring around Neptune and of ice in Halley’s Comet, to the determination of the extinction law in the Small Magellanic Cloud and monitoring to study dust formation in supernova 1987A.
