Ryouichi Irie (b. 1949) is a Japanese amateur astronomer in Toyooka city, Hyogo prefecture, and an independent discoverer of C/1988 P1 (Machholz). He is also an award-winning astro-photographer and exhibits his works widely. The name was suggested by M. Sugano.
