Named in honor of Alessandro Manara, since 1963 an astronomer at the Brera Astronomical Observatory in Milan. His fields of interest include astrometry, and the physics and dynamics of minor solar system bodies. In particular, he has studied the dynamics of comets and has carried out polarimetric analyses on several minor planets. He has recently written a study of Schiaparelli {see planet  (4062)}.
