David C. Slater (1957-2011) was a U.S. physicist with Southwest Research Institute. An expert in optics, detectors, and instrumentation, he was key to instrument development on several interplanetary missions, including New Horizons. He participated in the first ground-based adaptive-optics discoveries of asteroid satellites.
