Named for the prefecture in which Yatsugatake South Base Observatory and many other amateur astronomical observatories are located. This prefecture is in central Japan about 150 km west of Tokyo and is famous for Mt. Fuji {see planet  (1584)} and the mountain’s five lakes. This prefecture promotes environmental protection.
