Named in honor of Eduard M. Pittich (1940– ) of the Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava. Pittich has worked on the dynamics and evolution of comets, and also on the motions of dust particles in heliocentric orbits, as influenced by sunlight. He participated in setting up the Astronomical and Geophysical Observatory of the Comenius University in Modra-Piesky and has been active in the popularization of astronomy as a successful book author.
