Akira Fujiwara (b. 1943) is the project scientist for the successful Hayabusa mission to the near-earth object (25143) Itokawa. He is a pioneer of laboratory experiments studying the impact disruption of minor solar-system bodies and the intact capturing of microparticles at hypervelocities.
