James Dunlop (1793-1848) was an early figure of Australian astronomy. He made several noteworthy discoveries and wrote A Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars in the Southern Hemisphere observed in New South Wales. He is also credited with the discovery of comet C/1833 S1 (Dunlop).
