Wolfgang Wenzel (b. 1929), astronomer at the Sonneberg Observatory, Thuringia, was among the first to apply photoelectric photometry to variable star observation. He contributed to the discovery and typology of variable stars and carried out early analyses of γ-ray burster positions on photographic plates.
