Named for Lindley N. Johnson, who is responsible for planning the potential use of space-surveillance assets to detect and track near-earth objects. With degrees in astronomy and engineering management, he has been a space enthusiast since the age of 12. The discoverer and the Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking team wish to express their appreciation for his contributions to the development of the NAS A-JPL NEAT program, which became operational on the Maui GEODSS telescope in Dec. 1995.
