Named after the daughter of king Magas of Cyrene (273?–221 B.C.) and wife (247 B.C.) of Ptolemaeus III. Berenike sacrified her magnificent hair at the temple of Venus after the safely return of Ptolemaeus from a war against Syria. The hair was transferred to the skies and formed a constellation (Coma Berenices). (LDS) _ _.
