La Serena is a beautiful small city near the Pacific, about 600 km north of Santiago de Chile. For many years it was a stopping point for astronomers on their way to the Chilean observatories. With the construction of a landing facility at Camp Pelicano, the ESO office at La Serena was abandoned. (M 47163) _ _.
