Named in memory of the great Swedish botanist Carl von Linné (1707–1778). At an early age, Linnaeus developed a great love for flowers and herbs. This led him to develop the first major systematic system of nomenclature for the flora, and this became the internationally accepted standard. He organized the large-scale collection of botanical specimens in far-away countries and had a lively correspondence with his comtemporaries. (M 30801) _ _.
