Named in memory of Richard P. Feynman (1918–1988), outstanding theoretical physicist, 1965 Nobel prizewinner for physics, known for his works on liquid helium, quantum electrodynamics, elementary-particle physics and solid-state physics. Feynman was also an outstanding lecturer, and his three-volume introductory university course, The Feynman lectures on physics, has been an inspiration and a source of delight for generations of physicists and other scientists all over the world.
