Named in memory of Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686–1736), German physicist who invented both the alcohol and mercury thermometers. He is best known for developing the temperature scale that bears his name. The number of this minor planet is related to 4169, the number of the minor planet honoring the inventor of the Celsius temperature scale, in the same manner (to the nearest integer) as the relationship between the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales.
