Jenő Wigner (1902-1995) was a Hungarian-American physicist, joint winner, with Jensen and Goeppert Mayer, of the Nobel Prize for physics in 1963. His many contributions to nuclear physics included a formulation of the law of conservation of parity. This minor planet was discovered on the fifth anniversary of his death.
