Named in honor of Tohru Takabatake (b. 1957), a junior-high-school teacher and secretary of the Okayama Astronomical Society. A gifted speaker, he delights in explaining cosmic mysteries to his students, accompanying his talks with photographs of celestial objects. His main interests are comets and solar eclipse observation. Name proposed by the discoverers following a suggestion by Y. Yamada.
