Osao Shigehisa (b. 1936) has actively observed variable stars since 1952. An enthusiastic recorder of the activities of Japanese amateur astronomers, he played an important role in compiling a History of Amateur Astronomy in Japan in 1987, as well as a sequel in 1994.
