Wettin is a castle near Halle and the ancestral seat of the dynasty of the Wettiner. The dynasty reigned for 800 years in Middle Germany (until 1918) and essentially created Saxon history. King August the Strong (1670-1733) is the most famous representative. The name was suggested by the first discoverer.
