Chajnantor is a 5000-meter-high plateau in the Atacama Desert along the Andes in northern Chile. The Atacama Large Millimeter Array will be constructed there jointly by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the U.S. National Science Foundation and the European Southern Observatory.
