Boris Petrovich Zaitsev (1925-2000), People's artist of Ukraine, possessed an excellent bass-baritone voice. As a result of an injury in 1945, he lost his eyesight and both legs, but he was able to muster sufficient strength to graduate from the academy of music and became a leading soloist at the Odessa Philharmonic Society.
