At the University of Manchester’s Institute of Science and Technology, John E. Geake (1925–1998) was well known for his laboratory interpretation of the optical polarization of the lunar and asteroidal surfaces. He invented the first direct-reading linear refractometer, one of which he designed for the Cassini-Huygens Titan probe. (M 41029) _ _.
