Named in memory of the German botanist and physician Leonhard Fuchs (1501–1566), whose botanical work Historia Stirpium commentarii insignes (1542) remains a landmark in the organized presentation of botanical observations. The book contains beautiful woodcuts and accurate descriptions (and a glossary) of more than 550 plants, most of them of medical use.
